PRINTMAKING

Printmaking is a vast medium with so much expressive potential that it can sometimes feel overwhelming. I enjoy creating layers of marks using various printmaking techniques, constantly shuffling and rearranging elements until I find the right balance.

I often rework previously discarded prints or ghost prints —those created as part of the process, as they often reflect a spontaneity that can get lost in the process. Prints I initially reject often become the most interesting upon closer inspection.

After receiving funding in 2022 and 2024 to explore printmaking further, I became a member at Edinburgh Printmakers. I have been using my time in the studio to research, experiment and unlocking new insights through the medium.

My print work incorporates monoprinting, etching or photo plate lithography, often combining multiple techniques including collage and mixed media. I’m drawn to the intuitive nature of mark-making in print, which has helped me develop a strong visual language to express ideas.

Process itself is crucial to my practice, forming the foundation of much of my studio work. I love the immersive, whole-body experience of printmaking as well as the balance between precision and organisation and the unexpected, accidental results that arise. Working with materials and their processes allows me to engage physically, feeling textures, smelling inks, and scrubbing granular soap into my ink-stained fingers at the end of the day.
